A (Mildly Spooky) Game Boy Camera Zine
We just released No One Walks in West Hill, a system agnostic micro-setting and a submission for the Tiny World TTRPG Jam.
One of the great things about game jams is they give you an opportunity to experiment (and they force you to finish your work). We’ve been wanting to incorporate Game Boy Camera photos into a game for a while and, rather than making a full-sized project right out of the gate, we decided to start with a small zine that would let us play with the pixelated aesthetic a bit.
Admittedly, the photos for No One Walks aren’t really from a Game Boy Camera. We used the very useful webgbcam for the photos to make for quicker prototyping. This allowed us to take pictures on our phone, while walking around the city, without having to worry about messing about with original hardware.
The result is a small, mildly haunting, 8-page zine that can serve as a springboard for future work. While the next steps will likely have to wait until Michael finishes his dissertation, expect some pixelated spooks later in 2025!
